Operation Backpack 2015 huge success

On August 31st, 2015, posted in: News by

Thanks to ArcelorMittal Hamilton East, United Steelworker local unions and other sponsors Operation Backpack 2015 was a giant success.

ArcelorMittal Hamilton East, staff and sponsors raised $23,000 this summer to stuff 700 backpacks. On Thursday, August 27 ArcelorMittal staff and volunteers got together to stuff the bags with necessary school supplies to help students succeed in the classroom.

St. Matthew’s House was chosen as the local agency to distribute the backpacks. On Friday, August 28 SMH staff handed out 700 backpacks to inner-city families, other community partners and local schools including Cathy Wever and Dr. Davey elementary schools.

This was all possible thanks to the following sponsors: ArcelorMittal Hamilton East, employees of ArcelorMittal Hamilton East (USW Local 5328), Hamilton Specialty Bar, Golden Horseshoe Credit Union, GIC Financial, Kromet International, A.Raymond Tinnerman, Steelworkers Area Council, USW Women of Steel, USW Local 4752,  USW Local 4153, USW Local 1005, USW Local 7135, Sam Merulla, and MJI Marketing Solutions Ltd.

St. Matthew’s House is proud to be a part of this back-to-school program that continues to grow each year.
