Seniors’ Centres for Engaged Seniors

St. Matthew’s House has two seniors’ programs offering a range of social and recreational activities, practical assistance and crisis support.

The Seniors DROP-IN at Eva Rothwell Centre, 460 Wentworth St N, offers a casual space for seniors to gather, socialize, and have a meal. The Centre is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 – 4:00 and provides:

  • Light breakfast daily (coffee, tea, toast)
  • Lunch daily
  • TV, movies, newspapers, books, games
  • Assistance with access to services , interpretation, problem solving

Outreach workers provide friendly visiting to seniors at home for health and safety checks, and assist seniors in crisis situations.

The Roxborough Senior Centre at 785 Brittania Avenue is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday weekly from 9:00 – 4:00 and provides space for social and recreational programs.  Activities include:

  • Bingo, euchre and more
  • Fitness and strength training
  • Speaker events on topics important to seniors
  • Pot luck lunches

Membership is open to area seniors for $10.00 a year. Members of the centre are actively involved with staff planning and evaluating programs and activities. Members volunteer as well at the Roxborough Food Bank, the McQueston Breakfast Program and at neighbourhood events.
